While we were in Cape Cod, we were given a sensitive plant. Rob almost killed it, so I threw it on the deck to see what would happen. It came back with a vengeance and then I almost killed it during the hurricane. I forgot to water it for like six days. It lost most of it's leaves, but it still bloomed.

These are some yummy treats that we made with tomatoes and peppers from our roof garden. I also made a great tomato sauce, but I forgot to take a picture of it.

I am so excited about my indoor garden. My mom and sister have given me several plants from their gardens in Miami, that are all understory/shade plants. I also found an amazing plant nursery in Miami, Galloway Farm Nursery, that has a huge assortment of air plants, orchids and bromeliads.

Weekend in NY (July 9, 2011)
Weekend of July 2, 2011 (My birthday and July 4th)

A beautiful butterfly came to visit my new succulent (birthday gift) planters.
We spent the 4th at the Beer Store for a BBQ, but I was picket up early because I had to go to MA for a professional development workshop. We saw fireworks in CT, on the way to MA.

I can't believe how crazy my garden looks right now. Since the hubbs set-up a hose for me, I have been able to water regularly. I also bought plastic pots (the terracotta ones dry out too fast), better dirt and fertilizer. It has made such a huge difference. Last year, I was so excited when my tomato plant produced 8 cherry tomatoes and when my pepper plant produced 1 pepper. All the tomato and pepper plants are blooming or fruiting. I can't wait!

I finished phase 2 of my garden and I thought I was finished, but I'm not. I babysat my friends seedlings and she gave me a tomato, radish, beet and sage plant. I'll be adding more to my garden this coming weekend.

My rooftop garden.
It's been fun experimenting with different flowers, herbs and vegetable plants. Tomatoes, thyme, rosemary and roses love the heat and the sun. Basil, mint and peppers like the heat, but not the sun. Cilantro and parsley don't like either-- they died.

I was pleasantly surprised with my garden when I returned from Miami. My garden might just survive the summer. I had a bunch of ripe cherry tomatoes so I made a Rob's simple salsa with them, recipe below pic.

Rob's Salsa
Chop and add to a bowl:
1 tomato (or several cherry tomatoes)
1/2 onion
1 hot pepper (habanero or jalapeno)
3 sprigs of cilantro
Squeeze and add to the bowl:
1/2 lime
Add to taste:
Salt

Driving home two days ago I noticed a woman picking fruit off of a tree on McGuiness Blvd. The fruit was round and orange and at first I thought it was an actual orange tree, but they don't grow up here. On the way to work today, I had Rob stop the Roo and I hopped out to investigate.
Well it's ONE peach tree among 50 other trees down the center divider of Mcguiness. They aren't ripe yet, but in a couple of weeks they may be.

This is the first installment of my Photo of the Day. I hope to take one a day with my iPhone.
This is a picture of our "Roof-Top Garden" in Greenpoint. Not doing well the last few days because of the heatwave and lack of rain. Hoping for rain and cooler temps soon.
