Cape Cod - June 2011

Cape Cod

Cape Cod is such a beautiful area. The kids in MA, had an extended school year because of all the snow days- so it was really calm while we were there. We really enjoyed our time there and hope to go back soon.

Fun in the sun!

SUPing:

Wellfleet Harbor
Lieutenant Island Bridge
Indian Neck Beach
The Gut
Gull Pond and Higgins Pond

Kiting:
West Dennis Beach

We tried going to this island, but realized it was like 10 miles away. Getting there would have been fine, the problem would have been getting back.

Good Eats

Breakwater Fish and Lobster Co (Brewster) - Fish sandwich for me and a clam roll for the hubbs. Made to order, so we had to wait a bit. Huge portions and tasty.

Ross Grill (Provincetown)- A salad to start and a soft shell crab spider roll for me and a fried oyster po'boy for the hubbs. I wish I hadn't ordered the salad. It was from a bag and there were a whole bunch of gross pieces of lettuce in it. My roll was good, but I was already grossed out at this point.

Original Seafood Restaurant (Dennis Port)- This place reminded of Long John Silvers before it was a chain, even though I've never been to Long John Silvers. It was good for fast food seafood. I had a burger, because I was over seafood.

Blackfish (Truro)- This was the best restaurant of the week. We started with a frisee salad with a poached duck egg and bacon. Our second course was confit pork belly with hoisin bbq over white corn polenta and fleetian mussels in a tomato broth with smoky bacon, cilantro, jalapeno and lime. We then had to cancel our third course and I had to unbutton my jeans because we were stuffed. We ended the night with a chocolate tart with pretzel crust.

Carluccios Italian (Yarmouth)- Great roast beef sandwich.

Mac's Shack (Wellfleet)- Steamers, Sushi, Pan-Roasted Halibut with lobster-mashed potatoes and a saffron lobster broth. MMMMM.

Fairway (Eastham)- Breakfast, which included homemade sour cream doughnuts.

Marconi Beach BBQ (Marconi Beach)- Giant smoker in front, smells great. Not smoked BBQ ribs and pulled pork. They just run the smoker to get suckers to come in. I was so mad.

PB Boulangerie Bistro (Wellfleet)- The most amazing croissant that I have ever had.

UUUGGG!

I had to be by Prospect Park at 4:30, but I need to go home first. I leave work at 3:30, it usually takes me about 25 minutes to get home- but, there is a fire on Green Street and McGuiness. I am about 1/2 a mile from my house and I am trapped by a median. Traffic isn't moving. I am stuck and I can't do anything, but start to freak out. At 4:30, I finally make it to an intersection that I can turn at, I race home. Of course, there is no parking in front of my building, so I decide to park in front of the fire hydrant. As I am parking in front of the hydrant, I crashed into it.

Mamabob come to visit (June 17, 2011)

My parents came to visit this weekend. There were a few camera issues, Coco ate my SD card (which I have replaced) and I lost my camera charger cord (which I found), so I don't have many pictures to document their visit.

We did have a good time though.

We went to eat Italian at Manettes Fine Food (because they have gluten-free pasta), tapas at Cadaques Tapas Bar and German at The Standard Grill.

We took the East River Ferry into the city. Walked across the High Line. We also went to the Chelsea Galleries, where we happened upon a huge Picasso exhibit and to the Jewish Museum to see works by Matisse.

We even found a gluten free bakery, Babycakes, for my mom.

The best part of the visit, was that we went to see Sister Act.

New York Times review of Sister Act.

I love when they come to visit.

I can't believe how crazy my garden looks right now. Since the hubbs set-up a hose for me, I have been able to water regularly. I also bought plastic pots (the terracotta ones dry out too fast), better dirt and fertilizer. It has made such a huge difference. Last year, I was so excited when my tomato plant produced 8 cherry tomatoes and when my pepper plant produced 1 pepper. All the tomato and pepper plants are blooming or fruiting. I can't wait!

We went to see Priscilla Queen of the Desert. What an amazing show. I loved, loved it. The costumes were fabulous. The music was totally 80's. I was singing and dancing in my seat the whole time. I felt like a total dork. I was sad when it was over because I wanted more.

The New York Times review of Priscilla Queen of the Desert

Before the show, we went to dinner at a Mexican restaurant called, Toloache. It was good, they had fancy variations of Margaritas. The best part of the meal was the Chapulines which are dried grasshoppers with onion and jalapeno. They were spicy and salty, so of course they were good.
